The Power of regret: What We Can Learn About Making Amends
How to turn your regrets into strength
We all regret something in life, from minor things, like, in my case, eating coconut ice cream, my favorite when I know it will upset my belly, since I know I suffer from irritable bowel.
We also regret the most significant issues, as well as, in my case, I regret not having started my writing career over 20 years ago, knowing all my life that my true vocation is to be a writer.
I just read “The Power Of Regret” by Daniel H. Pink, a former adviser in the days of Al Gore’s vice presidency.
Non, rien de rien.
Non, je ne regrette rien.
No, nothing at all.
No, I regret nothing at all.Edith Piaf, French Singer
The book is based on a survey of over 19,000 people from 190 different countries.
Pink came to two main conclusions:
First, most people regret not doing more than they did.
And second, we all mourn the same thing; not having improved our stability over time, not having said or done something to a particular person, and committing moral blunders.
