When using the cane, we listen to our surroundings for example, the sound of our footsteps as they echo off buildings, when suddenly there’s no echo, it means open space, perhaps an empty lot, an alleyway, or the end of a block of buildings. Then we have to ask things like, will there be a curb ahead? I’ll need to turn 90 degrees to cross the street that I’ve been walking parallel with.

Thanks for your information. Now I know the importance of the cane. But like you, I would prefer a dog, a dog like Cooper.
