Since March 2020, when the first official cases of a new disease called COVID-19 were known, there have been more than 234,574,344 cases and more than 4,796,466 deaths, according to Johns Hopkin’s COVID-19 Dashboard.
This weekend has passed the milestone of 700,000 U.S. deaths. The indeed would have been much lower, especially in recent months, considering the absolute availability of vaccines.
According to CDC (Center for Diseases Control and Prevention), about 64,9 percent of the population available for vaccination have received at least one shot, and 58,8 percent are fully vaccinated.
Two new studies in the Syrian hamster show that Alpha and Beta variables are transmitted more quickly through the air than the original virus. The virus is evolving to spread more efficiently through the air, through droplets suspended in the air, which are very dangerous since they travel long distances.
The higher transmissibility of the new variants is due to several factors:
• Less viral load is needed for infection
• Faster replication
• A more significant load of the variant is exhaled
