For decades, psychologists have been driven to investigate Meaning in Life (MIL). This notion has captivated minds from many distinct fields.
Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them, Dalai Lama.
Because of that, researchers have identified sufficient factors contributing to MIL, including relationships with others, religious faith, personality traits, and perceived purpose in life. Recently, scholars have proposed that experiential appreciation may be a unique contributor to MIL.
Experiential appreciation is being mindful, appreciative, and grateful for the moments, people, and experiences that bring joy to life. It is an attitude of intentionally noticing and reflecting on everyday moments' beauty, wonder, and fun. Research has shown that this appreciation enhances meaning in life (MIL), which is an integral part of well-being.
